Another interesting venture down Rocky’s Road with our fun loving
Non-Typical nut ball we call Rocky.
This interesting venture was a special interesting venture because it brings
us back to a question that goes back to the beginning of time.
“Can dogs see in the dark”?
Our ventures over the years have leaned us towards “Yes, I think they can”.
We had no choice but to answer the difficult question in that manner
because, after all, how in the world can a dog rip through a brush packed,
branch packed, down trees packed woods in the complete dark with out running
in to anything? How can a dog run full tilt through a toy packed back yard
in the middle of the night with out touching a toy?
The answer has to be “Yes, I think they can see in the dark”
Well, this morning was an early one. The sun was about an hour from rising
so Rocky’s Road was pretty daing dark. The youngster Rocky was at his usual
position which is about 30 yards ahead of Dad and the Young at Heart Tucker
was at his usual position which is about 10 yeards behind Dad.
Dad had his flash light working the trail to keep himself from knockin’ his
nose on that one tree branch that sticks out perfectly.
Dad spotted a bouncing white cotton tail running the trail ahead, Rocky’s
off to the side of the trail probably working a chipmunk. I wasn’t but a
second and the Chase was on. I figured since Dogs can see in the dark, he’d
be fine.
Well, long story short, Rocky made the turn back towads Dad and the Young at
Heart. Rocky was doing his usual hoppin’ like a dear trying to figure out
where the cotton tail went.
Here comes the Young at Heart. Sure enough. BAMMMMM. . . A head on right in
the middle of the trail. I don’t think they saw each other. Or did they?
All is good, everyone is fine, but it raises that dain questions again. How
in the world can a dog rip through a brush packed, branch packed, down trees
packed woods in the complete dark with out running in to anything? How can a
dog run full tilt through a toy packed back yard in the middle of the night
with out touching a toy?
I thought they can see at night.
