Never a dull moment on Rocky's Road.
Last Night after an EXCELLENT run down Rocky's Road with my boys Tucker and
Rocky, we come home to my very excited 6 year old daughter with a sack of
un-husked corn on the cobb.
"Daddy, Daddy, want-a help me chuck some corn?"
This corn chuckin' thing has sort-a become a special event between her and
I. You know, who can chuck it the fastest, who can throw the husks the
farthest, quite the little event.
"Sure honey, just let me get the boys fed and I'll be right there"
Rocky is always first. I Set him up in the usual fashion, 12 feet back from
the bowl full of food and make him sit. He has to sit until I release him.
The bowl full of food is set. "Sit Rocky. . . "
Tucker's next. We don't work the sit too much any more. I guess being 13 1/2
years old he gets a bit of a break.
"C'mon dad, hurry up. . . "
McKenzie and daddy are turning this particular chucking session in to one of
the best.
We're having a ball.
About 5 minutes later, I thought I'd turn to look at my boys.
They love to finish dinner and sit at full attention right at their door and
watch me waiting for me to let them out and make the next move.
I notice Tucker there but Rocky was wasn't. He was at the back of the
kennel.
Hmmmm. . . I thought to myself. "That's odd, what's up with the Rockster"
Here it is about 10 minutes later after I put him in his Sit to wait for his
food and I forgot to release him. I guess I got too rapped up in the Corn
chucking session.
"Oooops, GET IT ROCKY. . . " "Good Boy. . . "
You know. . .
I oftern get approached at events by handlers asking how to get their pooch
to sit and stay.
I ofthen respond with "Get them to Sit before you feed them"
However, you don't have to wait 10 minutes before releasing.
Or do you?
